Pet Support Services was founded in 1997 by Dayle Benjamin and his mother Marian. Dayle and Marian were delivering food for another area organization and found that due to being too sick to get out to buy pet food, or trouble affording it, people were going without eating so that they could feed their beloved pets. The food was not proper nutrition for the animals, so it was an unhealthy situation for both human and pet. Dayle and Marian recognized how important a pet can be to someone who is isolated, and the potentially healing bond between people and their pets. They realized for the small price of a bag of cat or dog food, the two could make a difference in people’s lives. From the early days of collecting pop cans to finance services, Pet Support Services has grown to serve over 100 Lansing area clients and their pets. Pet Support Services is still run solely by a network of volunteers with no “brick and mortar”, keeping costs down and maximizing donation dollars. Our services are only limited by shortage of volunteers or financial constraints. Pet Support Services needs YOU!
